Vital, Cutting-Edge Support for America's Veterans
Vets Prevail provides Web-based reintegration and psychological resiliency training to Veterans returning from the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan (OIF/OEF). With recent research concluding that 37% of Troops returning from OIF/OEF will develop a mental health condition—such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression—the need for effective, evidence-based care is urgent. Vets Prevail's online delivery makes it an easily accessible solution for Veterans who would otherwise have difficulty finding care; and, because the program is completely anonymous, it circumvents the stigma attached to seeking treatment. Vets Prevail was developed in collaboration with mental health researchers in the Veterans Health Administration.
The Prevail proprietary web platform delivers an interactive experience dynamically tailored to the individual needs and demographic characteristics of each Veteran. The most important component of the Vets Prevail program is a set of online lessons delivering content rooted in Cognitive-Behavioral-Therapy (CBT). Each lesson includes 30-45 minutes of rich media content, including videos and interactive scenes. The lessons are complemented by integrated software tools that automate important tasks related to CBT (for example, scheduling and reflecting on healthy activities). Live instant messenger chats with Veteran peers serve to elucidate the content and maintain motivation.
